Engine 1-3 was dispatched to assist Buchanan Valley Fire Department with a large mountain fire Friday afternoon. With the fire burning over a half mile from the roadway, Gettysburg's crew had to carry equipment a long distance up the mountain to get ahead of the fire. In this photo, firefighters Brian Tyler and Ross Johnson begin ascent up the mountain to get ahead of the fire.

In this photo, a Cashtown chief oversees operations as crews work to keep the fire from jumping the fire line which was made ahead of the fire. Aircraft were also called in, providing water drops to extinguish the fire.
