Box 1 - 237 North Stratton Street

06/08/03 at 16:36 hrs.

[Hot Shot Photo 1] A late afternoon fire left several people homeless after fire ripped through a two-unit single story apartment building with an attached garage. In this photo, Deputy Chief, Al Knerr discusses operations with Asst. Chief Dave Blocher, while a back-up crew served as a Rapid Intervention Team for the interior crew, who were making an attack on the fire. (Photos courtesy of Brian Luger)

[Hot Shot Photo 2] The fire gutted the rear apartment, and while the front apartment sustained only smoke and water damage. The rear garage only sustained smoke damage from the fire. Exposure damage was limited, but heavy smoke conditions as can be seen in these photos caused adjacent homes to become filled with smoke.

[Hot Shot Photo 3] The fire had extended into the roof rafters and traveled above both apartments before roof cuts could be made to stop the rapid spread of the fire. Two firefighters sustained minor injuries during the incident. Firefighters from Barlow, Biglerville, and Littlestown Fire Departments assisted on the call.
