The Adams County Civil Air Patrol Unit will display their rescue activities, and representatives from the Gettysburg Borough Police Department, Adams County Sherriff’s Office, and the Gettysburg College Department of Public Safety will be present to interact with the community and answer questions.
Free food, including Gettysburg Fire’s famous hot dogs and hot chocolate will be available throughout the afternoon as well as free giveaway items for kids.
For the veterans in our community, the Pennsylvania Department of Veterans Affairs State Veterans Outreach Information Mobile Unit will be on hand to assist veterans who need assistance and to inform them of their VA benefits.
According to James Fox, Gettysburg Fire Department’s Fire Prevention Officer, “81% of fire deaths occur in the home each year. 365,500 home fires are reported, 2,560 deaths, 13,175 injuries and $6.6 billion in property loss. Volunteer fire departments like Gettysburg save taxpayers over $9 billion in taxes each year nationwide.”
The Gettysburg Fire Department is a 100% volunteer fire department and is always looking for additional members. Whether you might like to join, learn more or just have fun for a day, all are welcome at the open house.
