The Gettysburg Fire Department is constantly seeking new members, whether the individual is interested in firefighting, rescue operations, fire police, EMS or simply assisting with non emergency activities. For almost two hundred years Gettysburg has maintained all firefighters on a volunteer status amidst rising call volumes and decreasing volunteerism. In order to maintain the quality of service that we provide, new, sustaining members of the department are essential to our operations. Applications for membership are available for pickup at the Gettysburg Fire Department's station, located at 35 North Stratton Street in Gettysburg. Applicants must be 18 years of age and live or work in the first due territory of the Gettysburg Fire Department. Youth 14-17 years of age may apply for the Gettysburg Junior Fire Department.

Members of the Gettysburg Fire Department come from all walks of life, and include bussinessmen, police officers, machinists, college students, nurses, retirees and more.
