It is with much sadness that the Gettysburg Fire Department along with the Baltimore City Retired Fire Officers and Firefighters Association announces the Passing of Assistant Chief of the Fire Department Gary E. Frederick.

The Gettysburg FD has been honored to have a membership that comes from many areas other than Gettysburg who have served in both career and volunteer departments. One such member was Gary Frederick from the Baltimore City FD who called Gettysburg home upon retirement. In June 2002 he joined GFD as a volunteer becoming first and foremost a friend to us, served on the museum committee authoring our history book "Responding to Gettysburg Addresses Since 2008" and became the department's safety officer in March 2003. Gary served on apparatus committees and chaired the committee to purchase our current ladder truck.

On the fire scene it was always reassuring to see Gary making his rounds on the scene, he often said I'll never tell you what to do but whisper in your ear what you might want to consider doing. It is from this perspective as a friend and firefighting brother we sadly announce of Chief Frederick's passing.

Rest easy Chief Frederick, every person you touched in life became a better person because of you.
