By Gettysburg Fire Department
June 13, 2020

At 20:12 hrs the alarm was sounded for Box 1 (Gettysburg Boro) @ 238 S. Washington Street for smoke coming from a residence. Units arrived on scene of a 2 1/2 story duplex with smoke showing from side D and a light haze inside the residence. Medic 54 advised visible charring from the exterior of the residence and that all occupants from both units had safely evacuated.

Upon investigation crews located a fire around a window frame on Side D. Crews opened up, wet down the area and ventilated the structure. A neighbor made a knock on the fire with a dry chem extinguisher, preventing further fire spread prior to FD arrival. Personnel operated for approximately 1hr before returning to service.

Cause under investigation.

American Red Cross and PSP Fire Marshal contacted.

Gettysburg FD would like to thank all M/A companies for their assistance.
