| A few hours after Company 1 volunteers responded to a motor vehicle collision on Route 15/30 and assisted with several EMS calls, Box 1-1 was alerted around 2200 hrs. for a reported cabin fire at the Artillery Ridge Campground in Cumberland Township. Chief 1 and Deputy Chief 1 responded, and updated information indicated the fire involved a wood shed at the location, with individuals on site attempting to extinguish the flames. Deputy Chief 1 arrived and was directed by campers to a 12-by-20-foot shed, where smoke was visible coming from the door. Several used fire extinguishers were found near the entrance. Campers on scene reported that the main fire had been put out and confirmed that no one was inside the structure. Further investigation revealed a small fire still smoldering along the interior wall, just left of the door. The shed was used for firewood distribution. Engine 1-2 arrived, deployed a front bumper line to fully extinguish the remaining fire, and performed overhaul operations in the affected area. Engine 22 provided lighting support, with all other units staged at the campgroundās main entrance. Chief 1 assumed command and the investigation determined the fire to be accidental, caused by a faulty electrical cord. Quick action by several campers limited the damage to the shed and helped prevent further extension beyond the fire building. |
