| The Gettysburg Fire Department and Adams Regional EMS were dispatched to the area of 3080 York Road for a reported single-vehicle accident involving an overturned vehicle into a tree.
Deputy Chief 1 arrived to find a pickup truck off the roadway, overturned onto the driver's side and resting against a tree. After confirming the vehicle's sole occupant was trapped inside, York Road Command upgraded the assignment to an MVC with entrapment and requested additional resources, bringing Rescue 33 and Engine 33-3 to the scene.
Rescue 1 arrived and, following an assessment of the vehicle and patient location, crews established a tie-back stabilization system before beginning extrication. The roof of the vehicle was removed to provide access to the patient, at which time crews confirmed the patient's left arm and elbow were trapped beneath the driver's door.
Firefighters utilized hydraulic rescue tools to lift the door and free the patient's arm. EMS personnel then gained access to provide advanced medical care while rescue crews prepared the patient for removal. The patient was carefully removed while maintaining spinal precautions, transferred to an awaiting ambulance, and transported to York Hospital.
Aeromedical transport was initially requested, with STAT MedEvac 13 accepting the mission. Engine 33-1 and additional personnel were assigned to establish a landing zone; however, the helicopter was forced to abort the flight due to mechanical issues. With no other aeromedical resources available, the patient was transported by ground.
Fire Police provided traffic control and remained on scene until the vehicle was removed.
