Chief Ed Mizenko & FF Jaime Gallagher Jr along with several other area FD's attended and completed the PA Ice Rescue & Emergency Response Training conducted by WhiteCap Water Rescue Training, LLC. See the below write up from Todd Stahl @ WhiteCap Water Rescue Training, LLC. Also, while out of town for this training Chief Mizenko & FF Gallagher made a few stops upon their return to Adams County by stopping to visit a FD or two in Luzerne County.

On January 30-31, 2021 the Gettysburg Fire located in the Borough of Gettysburg (Adams County), PA, hosted an Ice Rescue & Emergency Response Training. This training session was led by WhiteCap Water Rescue Training, LLC staff instructors Brian Sarver and Todd Stahl. Assisting with this training session as Safety & Support members were Tim Doty and Andy Eberz.

Participating companies in this training were Northeast Adams Fire & EMS 32 - Station 1, Yoe Fire Company No 1, Glen Rock Hose & Ladder Co., Lancaster City Bureau of Fire, and the host agency Gettysburg Fire Department

This 16-hour Tech Level training session prepares rescue personnel to evaluate and respond to ice related emergencies. Students learn how to identify ice conditions, use ice rescue equipment and practice shore, boat, and direct contact ice rescue techniques. This course meets NFPA 1670 Technician Level Guidelines.

The theory and lecture session was held in Station 1’s training room. The indoor pool session for IRER was held at Gettysburg YWCA. On Sunday, all students and staff traveled to Lake Harmony, PA for their practical skills.

Weather conditions for this training were cloudy, with a 5-10 mph wind and a temperature of 16 degrees. Ice thickness on the pond was 9 inches. Just as students were completing their final skill station, the snow arrived. Hours later, students contacted Instructor Stahl to share they arrived home safely from the training.

All students attending, successfully completed the indoor pool session, passed their Written and Practical Exams for IRER. An excellent group of students to work with. Not once did they complain about the weather conditions! This team was focused, committed and motivated! They wanted to learn!

Thank you to Gettysburg Fire Department for selecting WhiteCap Water Rescue Training to instruct your Ice Rescue & Emergency Response Training. Fire Chief Ed Mizenko coordinated the training.
