By Deputy Chief Joe Temarantz
March 30, 2021

Tuesday March 30th @ 1412 hours Engine 1-1 and Truck 1 were alerted for Box 22-3 in the 400-Block of Sachs Road for a house fire. As personnel were still responding to the station, Adams County Communications confirmed the location of 430 Sachs Road and upgraded the Box to a working house fire, assigning the Working Fire Dispatch companies. Due to ongoing ladder testing, Truck 1 was still OOS at the time of dispatch and was replaced on the Box while Engine 1-1 responded with 6 personnel. AREMS Captain 54 arrived on scene shortly after dispatch and reported a Single Story Single Family Dwelling with fire through the roof. Engine 1-1 arrived and assumed the 1st due Engine assignment, followed by Carroll County ET112. E1-1 / ET112 personnel began fire attack with Deputy Chief 1 (Temarantz) establishing the Sachs Road Command. Due to the rapidly advancing fire, all occupants confirmed out of the home and the deteriorating structural integrity , the decision was made to continue with a defensive operation. The remaining 1st alarm & WFD units began arriving and were assigned to assist with Fire Attack, Water Supply & the establishment of a dump and fill site. Chief 22 (Hubbard) arrived on location and Command was transferred with DC1 now being assigned as Operations. Units operated on the scene for just over 4 hours. Unfortunately, several pets were unable to make it out of the home during this incident. The cause remains under investigation by the PSP Fire Marshall.
