Criteria

The recipient of the "Fireman of the Year Award" will be judged in the following manner:

A. Qualifications:
1. The proposed member must be classified as an Active member of the Department.
2. Participation in the following activities of the Department will be considered:

 

  1. Meetings

  2. Emergencies

  3. Drills

  4. Fund raising projects

  5. Work details

  6. Any other Department activities

3. Job performance on the fire grounds, station duties, such as preparing apparatus for the next emergency, and drill duties.
4. Job knowledge and the application of the same as well as the initiative shown in acquiring additional job knowledge.
5. Personal Relationships:

 

  1. Ability to get along with others

  2. Cooperation with others in accomplishing group assignments

6. Personal Traits:

  1. Ability to meet people

  2. Appearance and personal habits

  3. Dependability

  4. Punctuality in reporting and carrying out assignments

  5. Temper control and emotional stability

  6. The impression you make upon others

  7. Willingness to accept responsibility

  8. Ability to learn new material and methods

  9. Attitude toward your position and the work involved

  10. General conduct


B. Method of presenting the names of members to be considered for the Award:
 

  1. Any member of the Department may submit the name of any active member, elected officers included, whom they think should be considered for this award to the investigating committee, consisting of the President, the Chief, and the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, in writing, with a resume stating their reasons for submitting the name for consideration. This must be done by the December meeting of the Department.

  2. If no names are submitted, the investigating committee will then consider a worthy recipient utilizing the Department roster and the above-mentioned activities list.

  3. The President, Chief, and Chairman of the Board of Trustees will carefully study each resume and verify information.

  4. After the names and resumes have been verified by the investigating committee, they shall then prepare a ballot containing the names of those to be considered.

  5. The chairman of the Board of Trustees shall then arrange a meeting with the last five living recipients of the "Fireman of the Year Award" and present them with the ballots and resumes containing the names of those to be considered. The duties of the investigating committee shall then be complete.

  6. The last five (5) living recipients of the Award shall then review the resumes and mark their ballot indicating their choice for Fireman of the Year. After the votes are cast, they shall then be turned over to the last living recipient of the Award and only they will know the outcome of the vote. The decision shall remain secret until the actual presentation of the award. it shall be the responsibility of the last living recipient of the Award to have the certificate prepared and to have it present at the presentation.

  7. The last five (5) living recipients of the Award, since they were responsible for choosing the new Fireman of the Year, will not be permitted to submit a name for consideration during the time they serve on the committee.
