By Deputy Chief Joe Temarantz
June 19, 2021

Saturday June 19th @ 0935 hours, Gettysburg FD & AREMS dispatched to 820 Sickles Ave @ Devils Den (Gettysburg Battlefield) for a fall victim. Deputy Chief 1 advised by Adams County 911 of a 35 yom fall victim approximately 20ft off a rock with a ankle injury. MICU54-1 / DC-1 arrived on scene to find NPS Rangers out with the male patient on top of one of the large rocks and a confirmed right ankle injury only. Due to the location of the patient and his injuries, normal means of removing the patient to the MICU were not possible and it was decided upon to load the patient onto a backboard and into a stokes basket after receiving initial EMS treatment and then place him onto the aerial ladder of Truck 1 and safely lower him to the ground. The patient was further treated by AREMS and then ground transported to an area Trauma center. The GFD was assisted on scene by Barlow Fire UTV / Service 22 and UH&L Rescue Squad 33 along with AREMS & NPS Rangers.
