11-09-21 @ 1337 hours the pre-alert was sounded for 1260 Chambersburg Road in Box 1-4 (Cumberland Twp) for the house fire. Updated information received from a neighbor was for smoke alarms sounding and smoke coming from the garage along with a dog seen inside. Deputy Chief 1 (Temarantz) was on the road and responding when additional information was again received from Adams County Deputy Coroner (Adams 66-1 Dutrow) on scene with heavy smoke showing from the garage area @ which time the WFD (working fire dispatch) was struck at the request of the Deputy Chief. Just prior to arriving on scene, Adams 66-1 notified the DC of a vehicle in the driveway and a wheelchair ramp on the front of the house and no confirmation if any occupants were still inside, Adams County 911 requested to update responding units of "possible" entrapment. The dog was rescued by 2 Good Samaritans passing by and taken in by a nearby neighbor. DC1 AOS of a 2 story single family home with an attached garage and heavy smoke showing, established Chambersburg Road Command and assigned 1st arriving Engine 1-2 as Fire Attack and pulled past the address and stretched on the dwelling w/ FF's R. Kuntz & A. Knight to Side C and made entry to the garage entrance where they were met with a large volume of fire upon opening the man door. Engine 1-2 made a good knock on the fire and continued suppression efforts while next arriving Engine 4-1, 5-1 & Tower 5 assisted with Fire Attack and Primary searches on the 1st and 2nd floors. During the primary search, Cumberland Twp PD made contact with Deputy Chief 1 and advised that the occupant of the home was accounted for and with them down the street. All units operating were advised of the occupa,nt findings and confirmed the reports by completing primary and secondary searches. Additional 1st Alarm & WFD units began arriving and assigned to various tasks including exterior ventilation, laddering of the structure, ventilation, salvage, overhaul etc. along with a fill site established @ 741 Chambersburg Road by E33-3. The box was placed under control @ 1406 hours. The fire damage was held to the garage with the rest of the home receiving extensive smoke and heat damage.
The fire is under investigation by PSP Fire Marshall Division. The occupants, (2 Adults & 2 Children), assisted with housing by the American Red Cross. Box 1-4 was placed in service @ 1517 hours. No injuries on scene.
