In the early morning hours of Saturday, October 18, at approximately 0540 hours, the Gettysburg Fire Department, along with mutual aid companies, was dispatched to the area of Woodcrest Drive and Fairfield Road for a reported house fire.
Upon arrival of AREMS, they reported fire and smoke showing from a two-story, single-family dwelling. Shortly thereafter, Deputy Chief 1 (McGonigal) arrived on scene and confirmed a working fire with heavy fire conditions on Side Charlie of the structure and established Command.
As Deputy Chief 1 was conducting his 360 assessment , he was informed that two victims had been removed from the home by good Samaritans just prior to the fire department’s arrival and were located at the front of the residence and were in need of immediate medical attention. EMS promptly began treatment and safely removed both individuals from the scene. Both victims were later flown to a trauma center for advanced medical care. Fire crews initiated an aggressive fire attack while EMS continued patient care.
The cause and origin of the fire remain undetermined and are currently under investigation by the Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshal.
The Gettysburg Fire Department extends its sincere gratitude to the good Samaritans whose quick and brave actions helped save lives.
Our thoughts remain with the victims and their families during this difficult time.
