Gettysburg Eagles Donates to the GFD
Deputy Chief Joe Temarantz, February 16
The Gettysburg Eagles #1562 donated $3,500 to the Gettysburg Fire Department on February 15, 2026. Other local fire departments also received donations during this event. This contribution will support ongoing station upgrades at the Gettysburg Fire Department.

Valentines Day Vehicle Fire
Gettysburg Fire Department , February 16
On Saturday, February 14th at approximately 6:15 p.m., the GFD was dispatched to a vehicle fire in front of 14 Baltimore Street. Engine 1-2 with four personnel, Engine 1-1 with three personnel, Chief 1, and Deputy Chief 1 responded to the incident. Upon arrival, crews found a four-door passenger vehicle with an active fire in the engine compartment.

Congressman John Joyce visits the GFD / $1 Million CPF Grant Awarded

Past Fire Chief Heflin Visits the GFD

Recently, former Fire Chief Robert Heflin, who served as Fire Chief in 1969, visited the Gettysburg Fire Department for a ride around town. The visit brought back memories of his time leading the department, especially in the absence of the annual Gettysburg Christmas Parade.

Busiest Year to Date for the GFD

The Gettysburg Fire Department has reached a historic milestone in its long history since its establishment in 1808. As of December 1, 2025, the department has responded to 1,000 emergency calls this year—its busiest year to date. The total had increased to 1,010 calls as of December 4, marking the highest number of calls ever recorded by the department, with several weeks remaining in the year.

Honoring a Gettysburg Hero in Normandy

While studying abroad in France, Gettysburg firefighter Seamus Wyatt visited the Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial. During his visit, he came across a name that stopped him in his tracks —CPL Horace Mann “Bush” Bushman , a firefighter from the Gettysburg Fire Department.
