| While studying abroad in France, Gettysburg firefighter Seamus Wyatt visited the Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial. During his visit, he came across a name that stopped him in his tracks —CPL Horace Mann “Bush” Bushman , a firefighter from the Gettysburg Fire Department.
Corporal Bushman was the first Gettysburg resident to be killed in action in France during WWII, and the first employee of The Gettysburg Times to lose his life in the war. He was only 27 years old when he was killed in action on June 25, 1944.
Nearly 80 years later, his sacrifice is still remembered — and thanks to Seamus’ visit, his story continues to be shared.
🕊️ Gone but never forgotten.
