By Gettysburg Fire Department
June 21, 2026

On Sunday, June 21, 2026, at 2:18 PM, the Gettysburg Fire Department, Adams Regional EMS, Gettysburg Police Department, and several mutual aid companies were alerted to Box 1 for a reported residential structure fire with possible entrapment in the 300 block of N. Stratton Street.

As crews were en route, additional 911 calls confirmed a working fire, leading to the Working Fire Dispatch.

Upon arrival, units found smoke coming from a three-story row home. Deputy Chief 1 arrived and established Stratton Street Command, E1-2 secured a water supply in front of the structure, and initiated an aggressive interior fire attack. Upon arrival of additional crews they were assigned to conduct primary and secondary searches, ventilate the structure, and check neighboring homes for potential fire extension.

Initial information suggested that some occupants might be trapped. Firefighters worked closely with the Gettysburg Police Department and quickly confirmed that all residents had evacuated safely before emergency personnel arrived. Firefighters redirected their efforts to contain the fire, protect adjoining residences, and prevent the spread to other homes in the row. Several cats were rescued from the homes prior to FD arrival and reunited with their owners.

The fire was brought under control within approximately 30 minutes of arrival. Crews remained on scene for several hours to conduct overhaul operations, ventilation, and to ensure no hidden fire remained in the affected or neighboring structures.

Although the third-floor area of the home sustained significant fire damage, crews successfully prevented substantial harm to adjacent residences. Neighboring occupants were permitted to retrieve essential belongings but advised to seek temporary housing while ventilation continued.

No civilian or firefighter injuries occurred during the incident.

The American Red Cross and 1-800-BoardUp were requested to assist displaced residents. Utility companies also responded to secure services to the impacted property.

The Gettysburg Fire Department would like to Thank all personnel to include mutual aid Fire, EMS, Fire Police & Law Enforcement that assisted with this incident on Fathers Day.

The cause of the fire is under investigation and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
